Business continuity case study - Natural History Museum
Natural History Museum, London: Business Continuity Planning, Training and Exercising
The UK's Natural History Museum located in London is committed to developing its Business Continuity Management Sytem and Steelhenge is supporting the Business Continuity Team in this task through the development of existing business continuity plans and with a programme of training and exercising.
The Natural History Museum (NHM) is of national and international importance. In addition to hosting world-class collections and carrying out cutting-edge research, the Museum is also one of the UK’s leading tourist attractions and public spaces welcoming almost three million visitors a year.
The aim of the business continuity project is to ensure that in the event of a disruption, the Museum can lead and co-ordinate the response to an incident, maintain continuity of critical services, protect the safety and welfare of people, staff and visitors, preserve and maintain the scientific collections and reduce the impact of a potential incident on its buildings, infrastructure and other key assets.
Steelhenge is working with the NHM business continuity team, to review, develop and implement a full business continuity management system in line with BS25999.
A programme of training and exercising has been developed to validate the incident management and BC plans, prepare staff who will participate directly in incident response and business continuity teams as well as working towards embedding business continuity in the culture of the NHM through initiatives to widen staff awareness.
